PowerShell-based Solution Provides Drag and Drop Administration for Applications, Directory, and Group Policy

BOSTON, July 23, 2007 -- FullArmor, the leader in enterprise policy management, today announced FullArmor Workflow Studio (WFS), which automates complex, time consuming Windows datacenter provisioning and administration tasks with workflow-enabled scripts. Without writing any code, WFS enables IT departments to mix and match Windows PowerShell scripts with workflow technology to manage Windows applications, virtual machines, Active Directory, Group Policy, and more.

"Extensible command line interfaces and technology for defining, executing, and managing workflows are powerful tools for automating datacenter tasks, but they require significant knowledge and manual effort to use," said David Williams, Research Vice President at Gartner, Inc. "Products that make these two infrastructure technologies easier to understand, operate, and integrate, have the potential to significantly reduce IT operations management costs."

Scripting + Workflow = Datacenter Control

To automate complex IT operations processes such as provisioning Active Directory, Group Policy, Microsoft Exchange, and Virtual Machines, WFS uses a graphical console to make it “drag and drop easy” to workflow-enable Windows PowerShell scripts. From the WFS Console, administrators can easily create workflows that automatically perform multi-step systems management tasks in a controlled fashion. To execute individual operations, users simply point-and-click to drop standard scripts created with PowerShell, Windows Command, Visual Basic, and Java Script into a workflow. WFS includes sample workflow templates that can be used “as is” or modified to meet specific requirements.

Pre-made Application-Specific Modules

To simplify the creation of workflows that involve common provisioning and management tasks, WFS includes out-of-the-box capabilities for popular Microsoft applications and infrastructure components including:

- Active Directory
- Group Policy
- Exchange 2007
- Microsoft IIS
- SharePoint
- Windows Vista
- Windows 2008 (Longhorn) Server
- Windows Virtual Machine
- Systems Center
- VMWare ESX Server

Based on Native Windows Technologies

To protect an organization’s investment in Windows technologies, WFS uses the Windows PowerShell scripting engine. The WFS Console uses PowerShell to populate workflows created in its graphical UI. Since it is based on native Windows technologies, organizations have the confidence of knowing that WFS will support future Microsoft products and technologies they deploy in their computing environment.

“PowerShell can dramatically reduce IT operations workloads through automation,” said Danny Kim, CTO of FullArmor. “By simplifying the creation and re-use of PowerShell scripts and integrating these with a workflow engine, FullArmor Workflow Studio brings enterprise-class provisioning and management capabilities, usually associated with the mainframe, to the Windows platform.”

Pricing and Availability

FullArmor Workflow Studio will be available August 1 from FullArmor and its business partners worldwide. Pricing starts at $295 per administrator.
