Windows Azure Gives PolicyPortal Customer Scalability across the Internet
BOSTON, October 27, 2008 -- FullArmor, a leader in enterprise policy management, today announced that PolicyPortal, a web based end-to-end policy and compliance management solution, has been updated for Windows Azure, Microsoft Corp.’s cloud platform. PolicyPortal with Windows Azure provides a scalable, secure solution for laptop and desktop management across the internet.
From a web based Silverlight console, PolicyPortal provides IT administrators the ability to secure and manage remote PCs. This new version expands the scope of management beyond Group Policy settings to include delivery of virtual applications via Microsoft's App-V, documents, and PowerShell script enforcement.
“Our goal with PolicyPortal is to help customers reduce the cost of managing their endpoints,” said Danny Kim, CTO of FullArmor. “PolicyPortal with Windows Azure provides increased scalability so that we can deliver end-to-end policy management to more users through the cloud.”
The Ethiopian government is initially deploying PolicyPortal along with new laptops to 30,000 teachers, and plans to eventually roll it out to all 250,000 teachers in Ethiopia. The government needs to deploy, secure, and manage these machines throughout the country however it does not have a centralized, scalable data center. PolicyPortal with Windows Azure is an ideal solution. PolicyPortal enables the deployment of custom teacher applications through the cloud using Microsoft’s App-V and secures them using Group Policy.
“Microsoft's Windows Azure technology with FullArmor's PolicyPortal is especially important in our case as it helps us overcome our infrastructure challenges in managing the many remote computers throughout our school systems,” said Kiross Bitew, Capacity Building Head for the Government of Tigray Ethiopia.
“We are excited that FullArmor is using Windows Azure to help the Ethiopian government scale their environment and help upgrade the quality of their education system,” said Steven Martin, Senior Director, Connected Systems Division at Microsoft. “Our goal in building Azure and extending the Windows platform to the cloud has been to engender the kind of innovation Full Armor demonstrates in bringing the full value of cloud computing to customers like this in software + services solutions.”
