Software Turbo-Charges Microsoft’s Group Policy to Make Central Management Real -- Today

BOSTON (Nov. 15, 2004) - FullArmor today introduced IntelliPolicy for Clients, which lets enterprises centrally manage security, administration, and configuration by extending the capability of Microsoft's Active Directory and Group Policy technologies in which they have invested.

IntelliPolicy for Clients allows organizations to enhance their internal security controls while centralizing and simplifying desktop configuration and management. For the first time, companies can use "intelligent" Group Policy extensions to unlock the potential of the Active

Directory and Group Policy infrastructures

"Companies are looking for ways to get more mileage from their investments in Active Directory and Group Policy," said Richard Farrell, president and co-founder of FullArmor. "IntelliPolicy for Clients allows IT departments to address pressing operational concerns while leveraging these investments."

Group Policy is a primary driver for the migration from NT to Active Directory based Windows 2000/2003 environments. IT Administrators make extensive use of Group Policy's configuration management capabilities, especially for security settings.
However, critical configurations that are not available out-of-the box with Group Policy require complex scripting or other less effective automated and manual solutions. IntelliPolicy for Clients provides hundreds of new policies to enhance configuration and control of security, network resource availability and customization of applications for individual user needs. Since IntelliPolicy for Clients builds on Microsoft's extensible Group Policy architecture, it provides a standards-based solution that is highly scalable.

"Management tools like FullArmor's IntelliPolicy for Clients take advantage of Group Policy's extensible architecture to provide new policy settings enabling more comprehensive desktop and server management using the power of the Active Directory and Group Policy," said Michael Dennis, Lead Program Manager - Group Policy, of Microsoft.
'Intelligently' Applying Group Policies
IntelliPolicy for Clients immediately solves enterprise administrators' top three operational concerns: better security, easier availability for mobile workers and much better internal efficiency.

  • Enhanced security and internal controls. IntelliPolicy for Clients dramatically strengthens security at the desktop by eliminating vulnerabilities that often arise when end users modify standard configurations. The software can disable specific hardware like CD ROMs, USB storage devices and set local administrator passwords through new Group policy settings.
  • Support for the global, mobile workforce. Mobile users and the IT administrators who support them have carried the burden of reconfiguring systems - and providing access to relevant drives, printers, Internet Explorer Proxy settings - each time these frequent travelers dock their stations at a new location. IntelliPolicy for Clients automatically gives them access to relevant authorized resources at any location on the network as soon as they log on.
  • Automated configuration eliminates the need to write scripts. For the first time, authorized IT administrators anywhere on the network can define, configure, deploy and manage new group policies, applying them across the board and still accommodating local exceptions without having to write and maintain complex scripts.
IntelliPolicy for Clients is available immediately. Future IntelliPolicy extensions will expand to support a broad range of Microsoft-compliant horizontal and vertical applications.
