Problem: There are few robust resources that make the deployment and management of software simple and easy. Traditional software installed on the user’s computer can have a tendency to get corrupted from time to time. It may step on or get stepped on by another application making it unusable. This can happen during the original installation or subsequent updates and patches. As an organization migrates to new versions of a desktop operating system, many times there are legacy applications that cannot run on the new environment. The organization needs to enable its users to continue using the legacy application until it is ported. When these issues are multiplied by the total number of endpoints and the varying needs of different groups within the organization, the problem can be challenging. Solution: AppPortal is a scalable system built on Windows Azure that enables IT administrators to deliver and manage virtualized applications from the cloud. AppPortal eliminates software conflict by leveraging the application isolation features of Microsoft App-V. Legacy systems are delivered through Microsoft Med-V by packaging the legacy operating system with the application. In combination with the added flexibility for centralized management, self-service enablement, or a combination of both without any capital expenditures in servers or datacenters, AppPortal is simpler, easier and more robust than anything else in the market. The IT administrator can: - Sequence traditional applications into App-V apps and upload to the cloud
- Build Med-V applications from legacy systems and upload to the cloud
- Push down required App-V and Med-V applications to select groups
- Select a white list of App-V and Med-V applications to groups for self service deployment
- Provide each group with their own self-service store of white list applications
- Provide updates and patches safely and easily
- Identify un-authorized black listed application installations and regain full control
- Detailed usage tracking of all applications to simplify license management
